ICT – In-Circuit Test

In-Circuit Test

What is ICT? Learn about In-Circuit Testing: how it works, test coverage, fixtures and when ICT is the right choice.

What is ICT?

ICT (In-Circuit Test) is an electrical test method where individual components on a PCBA are contacted via a bed-of-nails fixture and tested for correct values.

In-Circuit Test (ICT) uses a custom test fixture (bed-of-nails) with spring-loaded probes that contact defined test points on the board. ICT tests resistance values, capacitance, inductance, diode characteristics, shorts and opens.

Process and Application

The fixture investment pays off at higher volumes through fast test times and reliable defect detection. For smaller volumes, the Flying Probe Test is a flexible alternative without fixture costs.
