What is HASL? Learn about Hot Air Solder Leveling: process, advantages, limitations and alternatives like ENIG and OSP.
What is HASL?
HASL is a PCB surface finish where copper pads are coated with a tin layer by dipping in molten solder.
HASL (Hot Air Solder Leveling) is one of the most cost-effective PCB surface finishes. The board is dipped in molten solder and excess is blown off with hot air. HASL provides good solderability and long shelf life, but the uneven surface can be problematic for fine-pitch components.
Process and Application
For fine-pitch and BGA, planar finishes like ENIG or OSP are preferred.
