Flux

Flux

What is flux? Learn about flux: its function in the soldering process, flux types and cleaning requirements.

What is Flux?

Flux removes oxides from metal surfaces during soldering and improves solder wetting.

Flux removes oxides, prevents re-oxidation during soldering and improves solder wetting. Classification follows IPC J-STD-004: rosin-based (RO), resin-based (RE) and organic (OR).

Properties and Application

No-clean fluxes leave benign residues. More active fluxes require post-solder cleaning, as their residues can be corrosive.
