What are centroid data? What a pick-and-place file contains and why it is essential for automated component placement.
What are Centroid Data?
Centroid data contain the exact coordinates, rotation angle and board side of each component for automated placement.
The centroid file contains the X/Y coordinates, rotation angle and placement side (top/bottom) for each component. It is exported from the PCB design tool and serves as the basis for programming the pick-and-place machines.
Practical Application
Together with the Gerber data and BOM, the centroid file forms the complete manufacturing data package.
